Member — User Guide
You signed up to train with a coach. MyTrainerOS is where everything lives: your workouts, your nutrition, your sessions, your messages with the coach.
At-a-Glance (4-minute orientation)
- Finish onboarding. When you sign up via your coach's invite link, you walk through 8 stages: Profile, Body Stats, Goals, Timeline, Activity, Body Type, Water, and Health.
- Today's plan. Your home screen shows what your coach has on the docket for today.
- Start a workout. The Workouts tab holds what your coach has assigned. Sets, reps and weights are tracked as you go.
- Log a meal. The Nutrition tab is where meals go.
- Talk to your coach. The chat icon in the header at the top of the screen opens your conversation.
Your tabs along the bottom are Home, Workouts, Nutrition, AI Coach and Shop. Two things are not tabs and catch people out: messages live behind the chat icon in the header, and Settings opens from your avatar in the header. Wherever this guide says "Settings → something", that is how you get there.
That's the loop. Nothing else is required to get value.
In-Depth — User Stories
US-ME-001: Complete onboarding
- Stage 1 — Profile. Your basic details.
- Stage 2 — Body Stats. Height, weight, age.
- Stage 3 — Goals. What you are training for.
- Stage 4 — Timeline. The horizon you want to work to.
- Stage 5 — Activity. How active you already are.
- Stage 6 — Body Type. Used to shape your starting targets.
- Stage 7 — Water. Your hydration target.
- Stage 8 — Health. Offers to import from Apple Health or Google Fit. Skip this one. The import does not currently do anything — it reports success without reading any data. Connect your health data afterwards from Settings → Wearable Devices, which does work.
You're done. The app drops you on your home screen.
US-ME-002: Start and complete a workout
- Tap Start Workout from the quick-action button on your home screen, or open the Workouts tab.
- Each exercise shows its target sets and reps, and what you did last time.
- Log each set's actual reps + weight. You can also record an RPE (1-10) if your coach asks for one. (Or hold the mic and say "10 reps at 185.")
- The rest timer starts on its own. Tap Skip Rest to bypass it.
- After the last set, tap Next Exercise. Repeat. On the final exercise that button reads Finish.
- A running volume total sits under each exercise, and a New PR! banner appears if you beat a previous best.
Voice commands during a set:
- "10 reps at 185" → logs the set
- "repeat" → re-uses last set values
- "rest 90 seconds" → custom rest
- "skip" → moves on to the next exercise. Note this skips the whole exercise, not just the current set — say it deliberately.
US-ME-003: Log a meal (3 ways)
On the Nutrition tab, the button at the bottom opens four options: Log Food, Voice Log, Photo Log and Scan Barcode.
Voice Log (fastest):
- Hold the mic.
- Say: "two eggs, a slice of toast, and a coffee with milk."
- Release. The AI breaks it into items with macros.
- Correct anything it misheard, then confirm.
Photo Log:
- Take a photo of the plate.
- The AI detects each food and shows portions and macros.
- Adjust portions, then confirm.
Photo logging needs a plan that includes it. If it sends you to an upgrade page, that is the plan gate rather than a fault.
Scan Barcode (packaged foods):
- Scan the package barcode.
- The food and portion size auto-fill.
- Adjust if you ate a different amount, then confirm.
Barcode scanning is Android only today — the scanner has no iOS implementation. On iPhone and iPad use Voice Log or Log Food instead.
Reading the colours:
Colour tells you which macro you are looking at, not how well you did. Each one keeps its colour whatever the number says:
- Green — protein
- Amber — carbs
- Pink — fat
- Indigo — calories
Amber means carbs. It is not a warning, and there is no "getting close to your target" colour — an amber bar on a high-carb day is the bar doing its job.
The one colour that carries meaning is purple, which appears when you go over. It is deliberately not red. Going over a target is information, not a failure, and red reads as a verdict on you rather than a number on a screen — logging an honest day should stay easier than logging a flattering one.
US-ME-004: Book a session with your coach
Self-service booking is not reachable in the app yet. There is a member schedule screen built, but nothing in the app currently links to it, so there is no sequence of taps we can honestly give you. We would rather say that than send you looking for a tab that is not there.
What to do instead: ask your coach to put the session in. Coaches book from their own schedule view, and the session appears for you once they do.
Once a session exists, your next one shows on your home screen. Tapping it opens the appointment, which is where the details live.
Members have no Schedule tab — the tabs along the bottom are Home, Workouts, Nutrition, AI Coach and Shop. If you have seen a Schedule tab, you were looking at a coach's or an admin's account, not a member's.
US-ME-005: Sync wearable data
- Settings → Wearable Devices. (The screen it opens is titled Health Data.)
- Connect Apple Health on iOS, or Health Connect on Android. Those are the only two options, by design.
- Approve the data scopes (steps, heart rate, sleep, HRV). Permissions are per data type, so it is normal to have steps working and sleep not.
There is no per-brand login. You do not sign in to Whoop, Garmin, Polar, Oura, Fitbit or Suunto inside MyTrainerOS. Those devices reach us only by writing into Apple Health or Health Connect first, which you set up in the device's own app. The chain is: your device → its own app → Apple Health / Health Connect → MyTrainerOS. If your device is not listed anywhere in our app, that is expected rather than a fault.
What's shown to you:
- Resting heart rate trend
- HRV trend
- Sleep duration + quality
- Steps
What we deliberately do NOT show:
- Calorie burn from wearables. Research shows it's inaccurate; surfacing it would lead you astray. Your nutrition coach is the source of truth for energy balance.
US-ME-006: Message your coach
- Tap the chat icon in the header at the top of the screen. It carries a badge when you have unread messages. It is on your main tabs, though a few focused screens — a workout in progress, for instance — hide the header.
- Tap your coach's thread.
- Type, or record a voice note.
- Send.
There is no Messages tab along the bottom — messaging lives in the header instead, so it is reachable from wherever you already are.
Your coach sees it in the app. Most reply within hours. Note that push notifications are not currently being delivered on any platform (see troubleshooting), so neither of you should count on being pinged — check the app.
You can send text and voice notes. There is no photo attachment in chat today, so a form check cannot be sent this way; if your coach wants to see something, ask them how they would like it. Video form review is a separate feature your coach may use.
US-ME-007: Track progress (photos, weight, measurements)
There is no Progress tab. What exists sits in two places.
Progress photos — Settings → Progress Photos. Add one whenever you like; weekly is a common rhythm. Photos are stored against the date you took them, so the series stays in order.
That screen has a Compare Photos button, which opens a Before & After view of any two dates side by side. (It is a side-by-side comparison, not a drag-across slider — an earlier version of this guide described the wrong control.)
Two surfaces are built but currently unreachable, and we would rather say so than have you hunt for them: the strength/volume training charts, and the body-measurement screen (chest, waist, hips). Both exist; nothing in the app links to either yet.
US-ME-008: Pay for a session / package
- When your coach charges you (one-off session) or you renew a package, you see a Stripe Checkout sheet.
- Add a card (or pay with a saved one).
- Confirm.
- Receipt emailed instantly.
If your coach has card on file enabled and you've authorized it, charges happen automatically — you'll see a notification but no intervention needed.
US-ME-009: Switch your nutrition / hydration targets
Your coach sets your calorie and macro targets. The screen that edits them is a coach-side screen, and there is no Settings → Nutrition menu on a member account.
Onboarding asks for your goals, body stats and activity level, and you set your own water target there — but it does not compute your calorie or macro targets. Those come from your coach.
If a target looks wrong for what you are actually training for, message your coach. They can change it, and it takes them a moment.
US-ME-010: Cancel a session
You cannot cancel a session from the app. Opening a session from your home screen gives you a Session Details screen with the session's time, your coach, a way to join a video session and a way to message your coach — but no cancel control.
So: message your coach. That is the honest answer, and the message button is right there on the same screen. Do it as early as you can, because your coach's cancellation policy is time-based — a late cancellation may carry a fee, and that window is set by them, not by us.
Your coach can then cancel it from their side.
Filing a support ticket
You can file a support ticket from the Help section of the app.
For anything about your training, message your coach instead. Your program, your targets, a session you need to move, how an exercise should feel — your coach owns all of that and will answer faster than we can. Support tickets go to MyTrainerOS staff, who build the app but do not coach you.
File a ticket with us when the app itself misbehaves: something won't load, a workout won't save, a payment failed, or you can't log in.
These are the response targets we publish. Severity is chosen when the ticket is created.
| Severity | First response | Resolution target |
|---|---|---|
| Urgent — production down, you can't take payments | <2h business | <24h |
| High — a feature is broken, or a member is blocked | <8h business | <72h |
| Normal — how-to questions, minor bugs | <24h business | <7 days |
| Low — feature requests | acknowledged within 7 days | no commitment |
What to include
The difference between a ticket resolved on the first reply and one that takes four round-trips is almost always the detail in the first message. Include:
- What you were trying to do, in one sentence.
- What happened instead — the actual message or behaviour, not a paraphrase of it. If there was an error, quote it exactly.
- Steps to reproduce, numbered, starting from a screen you can reliably get back to.
- A screenshot, if anything was visible on screen.
- Who it affects — just you, one member, or everyone. If it's a specific member, include their member ID rather than their name.
- When it started, and whether it has ever worked.
Please don't paste health details into a ticket. We don't need a member's measurements, injuries, or nutrition history to fix a software bug, and a ticket is not the right place to store them. A member ID is enough for us to find the right account.
You don't need to describe your training or your health to report a bug, and you shouldn't — tell us what the app did, and we'll take it from there.
Tracking status
Every ticket moves through four states:
- Open — filed, not yet picked up.
- In progress — someone is actively working on it.
- Resolved — we believe it's fixed and we're waiting on you.
- Closed — finished.
A resolved ticket stays reopenable for 7 days. Reply within that window and it reopens; say nothing and it closes automatically. Closing is not a deadline on you — if the same problem comes back later, file a new ticket and reference the old number.
If you're stuck
If a ticket has gone past its first-response target above, reply on the existing ticket rather than opening a second one — a reply bumps it, and duplicate tickets split the history across two threads and slow things down. If the problem has got worse since you filed (it started as a question and is now blocking payments), say so in a reply and ask for the severity to be raised. Severity is not fixed at intake.
